The Nakatani Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of the application cycle for the 2018 Nakatani RIES: Research & International Experience Program in the U.S. for Japanese Students!

The Nakatani RIES Fellowship connects Japanese undergraduates with the best of science & engineering research in the U.S. and is open to students attending universities in Japan. The program serves as a catalyst for Japanese science & engineering students who are interested in future graduate study and research and contributes to the development of a generation of globally-engaged scientists & engineers who have the technical and cultural skills to contribute to vibrant international research collaborations in the future.

Nakatani RIES consists of a six-week program in the U.S. designed to expose young scientists and engineers to cutting-edge research in a diverse range of science and engineering fields. Japanese participants will spend their first five-weeks at Rice University, where they will work on a hands-on research project in a science or engineering research lab. During their final week in the U.S, Japanese Fellows will visit the East Coast where they will visit universities, government agencies, and related organizations to learn more about the intersection of scientific research, academia, and career opportunities in the U.S.

The Nakatani RIES Fellowship is geared towards the needs of young undergraduates who are new to scientific research. Prior research experience is not required. B1, B2, and B3 students in science or engineering who are Japanese citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply.  Interested students must first register with the Nakatani Foundation on their website and submit the online application and one letter of reference by Feb. 2, 2018 (Japan time).
