Step One: Register With Nakatani Foundation
February 2, 2018 (by midnight, Japan time) Step Two: Online Application Form Due
1 Letter of Reference Due
March 5 – 7, 2018 In-Person Finalist Interviews in Tokyo
by mid-April Confirmation of 2018 Japanese Fellows

2018 Nakatani RIES for Japanese Students Program Dates

Selected participants must be able to participate in all scheduled program activities.  No exceptions to the schedule below are allowed. If you have questions about the program schedule please email nakatani-ries@rice.edu.

April – May  Confirm Participation & Submit Visa Documentation to Rice University
May 26 – 27 Joint Weekend Trip with U.S. Fellows in Tokyo Area
 Optional but strongly recommended. 
June  Schedule Visa Interviews with U.S. Embassy or Consulate in Japan
June 29 – July 1  Pre-Departure Orientation in Kyoto and Joint Sessions with U.S. Fellows
 Arrive Kyoto by Friday evening. Return home on Sunday afternoon/evening.  
August 12
Time TBA
 Arrive Tokyo For Final Travel Overview & Logistics
August 12
Time TBA
 International Group Flight Departs Japan & Arrive Houston, TX
 Gain 1-day as you cross international date line. 
August 13 – 14  Orientation Program at Rice University
August 15 – September 13  Research Internship Experience at Rice University
September 14 Last Day at Rice & Final Research Poster Colloquium at Rice University
September 15 –  September 21  Final Week Program at Lehigh University & Washington DC
Exact locations and schedule to be announced  in August.
September 22 International Flight Departs U.S.
Lose 1-day as you cross the International Date Line.
September 23 International Flight Arrives Japan
After group flight arrival, students travel back to their hometowns. 
September 28 Students Arrive in Kobe on Friday Evening
September 29 Nakatani Foundation Closing Workshop in Kobe and Company Visit to Sysmex
Students will give oral presentations on their research experience in the U.S.
